The University District is right next to Univ of WA and is an older well settled area and convenient to the freeways and downtown.

I live around Seattle, (Bellevue to be exact) and love it here!

Maybe you could go on my MySpace and start a dialog or join a group based in this area?

Sounds like an exciting and challenging move!! Big change from Florida to Washington. Now I lived in both places. I recommend that you invest in some winter type clothing, and wetweather gear. Different wettness than Florida, Shiver Me Timbers!!!!

It really depends on what you can afford. There is a great place on Mercer Island, http://www.shorewoodheights.com This place is awesome and I have lived here for a year after relocating from San Diego. The community is nice and you are less than 10 minutes from Seattle. The Island is clean and safe. Rents are about 1100 -1600, which is very cheap relative to average rents in the area. The Island also has various activities and festivals throughout the year.
