Ohio isn’t really looked upon as being respectable in any category. But I am sort of in your same position and getting a masters at much farther down the totem pole Univ. because it’s cheaper and I can make better grades here.

Your thesis will say a lot more about you and your talent and studies than the name of the university you got your doctorate from.

Well, it is ranked in the top 100 by US-News but quite a ways away from top 50. The choice entirely depends on your plans after completion. If you want to work at a top 50 school, then you will have to attend a top 50 school, whereas if you just want to teach, OU should be fine. I wouldn’t say it is a joke, at all, but the caliber of students and professors will be slightly lower than at a top school, but you already knew that. I hear competition for academic jobs is very competitive, so you will want to give yourself the best possible advantage by attending the best school you can. Best of luck!
