# Prove the quadratic formula works?

I am supposed to prove the quadratic formula works by showing that (-b+sqrt. b^2-4ac)/2a and (-b-sqrt. b^2-4ac)/2a are solutions to ax^2+bx+c=0. How would I do something like that? I have no idea how I would solve it if I were to plug it in or something.

# math question : use the distance formula to prove A,B,C are collinear given A(0,1) B(3,7) C(-2,-3)?

i have tried the distance formula what am i doing wrong? AB (0,1)(3,7) d^2=3^2+6^2 d^2=45 d=6.7 BC (3,7)(-2,-3) d^2=(-5)^2+(-10)^2 d^2=125 d=11.2 AC (0,1)(-2,-3) d^2=(-2)^2+(-4)^2 d^2=20 d=4.5 now from what I remember AB+BC=AC…the points are not collinear BUT i have used the equation of a line method and the points are collinear why is it not [...]
