Currently, teacher salaries vary by district. Based on todays salaries, I’d guestimate that an average starting salary is around 35,000 – I don’t think it makes a difference whether you’re high school or middle school, etc. It more makes a difference the district you teach and your degree level.

I highly recommend that you get a teaching job before pursuing a master’s degree, as many schools do not want to hire people with that huge of a starting salary.

Also, public schools generally pay much higher than private schools. It’s a general rule of thumb that the benefit of teaching private is that your child gets to go to the school for reduced tuition.
