PhD in most disciplines is 5 years, but your school should pay for the entire program. If you enter a top 35 program in your area of study, you’ll get full support, some of it you’ll have to “give back” to school in a way of teaching assistance or research assistance.

It will take you at least 8-10 years! My Brother has a Ph.D. In Computer Sci. From Princeton. Did his undergrad work at M.I.T. It took him ten years to get his Ph.D.

It took me 5 years to get two Masters Degrees from UC Davis

It all depends on how long it takes to write the dissertation. Most course work for the PhD takes about 3 -4 years (depending on the program)…what ends up making it take forever is that pesky dissertation…check back with me in about 7 years and I can tell you how long it took me to finish.
