well, if you really want to be singing in a musical theatre production, then you will have to take lessons. You could start with introductory classes while starting with your singing training. Check with the schools that you are interested in and ask them.

I’d email the professor directly and ask him/her just what the course will entail. Sometimes course descriptions or titles can be deceiving. Once I took a course called “Performance Live,” where the course description made it sound like a course in the recording of Live Performance, but in reality we had to sit through these horrible concerts, do mundane readings and responses and weekly journals.

Ask how hands on it is. Ask if you’ll be singing at all, and whether or not you must audition to get into the class. Hope that helped!

if you have talent, someone will find you as long as you’re doing what you love. so go for musical theatre! what have you got to lose?
